  The first notification I got that a monopoly was an option is when the BEST company(Recology) sent me a postcard telling me I had zero choice in a free market economy. Its been weeks? I contacted city council who except for one person-not a single person replied to me. The one response I got was-we decided this in March-where were you? Well, since I check my mail every day and answer my messages, I never got a notification from Chico that I could be affected by their idiocy. PGE/Cal water and every other service are required to provide notification of change of service or change in rates.
  I was with Recology for over 10 years and on 4 properties(concurrently) and EVERY single issue I ever had was handled with LOCAL courtesy and quickly and wonderfully.
  I will gladly join a recall effort, voting effort, lawsuit, or whatever to get free choice back.
  It was done SOLELY for $$$$. Chico used to get about 500k for allowing service, now they get 1,800k under the auspices of less pollution, less wear/tear. well, guess what-there used to be 2 trips/week on my street, now there are 5. how on earth is that better?

  update-just called in cause my driver told me I am not on the pickup list.
  WM told me my address before I told them my info. THEN they told me my account was closed-in 2015-BEFORE I LIVED HERE!!! Then they told me an address(across the street). Then when I wanted to make sure they were not gonna screw with my awesome neighbors-the "okay, um, okay" CS guy told me to stop talking and he was going to "drive the bus-sit back and let me drive the bus"
  I hung up. Gotta go find my blood pressure medicine.

  they took my garbage cans today.
  i called to try to find out why.
  they said i dont have an account with them.
  I did.
  They finally found one and said i owe over $700 yet they were incapable of sending me a bill but were capable of picking up my trash for the last 6 months since Chico city council raped my rights to choose my service provider.
  The latest phone call they told me that they were charging me for 4 cans and recology only had me down for 2. Obviously the idiot can replacement people screwed up.
  So now I have no cans... and a wrong bill....but wait-THERES MORE!!!
  My service from recology cost me 48.49/month.
  She tells me after she takes off the wrong cans my bill is $375... which divided by 6 months since recology got booted is ?? wait.. HOW MUCH?!
  Now for the privilege of NOT being able to choose my carrier, i have to pay 62.96/mo for worse service?
  how the @#$%^& is that even possible?
  Who would like to cancel WM and have me drive to their house every week with a dump truck-pile your garbage in and we can take turns dumping it at every city council member driveway until this gets changed.
  Oh-did you know? WM used to have to pay $250,000/year for teh right to gouge customers. Now the city wants $900,000/year.
  Who do you think is going to pay for that?
  Invoice your city council member for the difference, keep track and take them each to small claims court every year. With interest until we get our rights to choose back again.
